Support my challenge to leave MS behind!
I am raising funds for research into the prevention,
treatment and cure of multiple sclerosis, a nasty affliction that impacts my
wife Vicky in various ways every day.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that causes the affected person's immune
system to attack the protective coating around the neural pathways to and from
their brain and body. The resulting inflammation and damage to their central
nervous system can cause muscle spasms, cramps, weakness and pain affecting
their mobility and daily function.
Many afflicted people find their speech, vision, clarity of thinking and mood
are impacted for various lengths of time, sometimes permanently. These ‘flare
ups’ also result in fatigue, frustration and uncertainty causing mental health
issues that are just as debilitating.
We have seen diagnosis, flare up monitoring and treatment techniques improve
greatly since Vicky was diagnosed in 2019. The doctors at the Alfred Hospital's
Neuro Immunology Clinic are hopeful that preventative measures and earlier
diagnosis for the people most vulnerable to develop the disease can be found.
I will be grateful and humbled if you are willing to support my 50km challenge
by donating to this life-changing cause. With our help finding a cure may be
possible.
