Watching a loved one battle an invisible disease is a tough reality to face. It's painful to see Lauren miss out on watching the girls play sports, take them shopping, or even go for a walk. Some days, reaching the letterbox feels like an insurmountable task. What you see on social media is often far from the truth. Behind the screens lies the pain and suffering that we rarely share the ugly truth we all sometimes try to escape from. I know I do.
Throughout our journey with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), my family and I have learned that wallowing in self-pity or questioning why this happened to our mum/wife gets us nowhere. Yes, it's unfair life often is. But we decided to face each day head on. We take risks, we are bold, we are strong. We get up and carry on because we understand the challenges, we recognise the limitations, and we accept the activities we may never do together as a family. But we refuse to let this devastating disease strip away what is most important to us... each other.
So, let's get together, join my 50K May Team "Wonky Donkey". It will be hard. I struggle to run the bin out to the street let alone run 50K. But when I tell myself "I can't run 50k," or "I don't have the time," I will spare a thought for Lauren and the thousands of others who can't do simple things like even walking their kids to school. So join my family and me as we do our part to hopefully make the journey easier for the next family affected by MS.
